We designed a showcase for energy conservation* at 2555 74th Street, Lubbock Texas. This facility has met the requirements of our practice and provides a good working environment for our staff. An addition was completed in 1983 that increased our office space to 11,200 square feet.

Our computer facilities include 2 MicroVax mini-computers and 30 IBM compatible PC’s serving as graphic terminals on the DEC network or on the Microsoft network using Ethernet. An E-size digitizer is used for hard copy input, and a Versatek E size plotter is used for hardcopy output. For communications, we have 8 outside voice lines and 3 Data and Fax lines. Our archives are in a hardened basement site. We have an electronics shop for maintaining our computers.

Elements of energy conservation designed into our building:

The insulation was designed so that the envelope heat loss matches the internal heat gain. This muted the question of heating energy, so we used heat pumps. Since the concrete block wall mass is inside the insulation envelope temperature creep over an unoccupied weekend is slight. Utility costs have been minimal for heating and cooling.
