Doyle Owens aboard the USS Altair, 1928
You probably thought I don't know how to do animation, didn't you? Well, I hate it nearly as much as I hate graphic buttons and other nonsense that takes forever to load. . . . but why should the kids have all the fun? |
This photo was taken about 1975: The '40 sports a Corvette running gear with 340 hp 327 cu. in. mill and Warner T-10 close ratio tranny. It is very quick. I bought the car from Mickey Cooper in 1969 for $550. The kid who started building the car for drag racing was killed in Viet Nam. He had split the wishbones and chopped the firewall 4". I did a frame up rebuild and finished it with 8 coats of black lacquer. I replaced all the glass and rubber and installed new steering gear, shocks, running boards and dual exhaust. The interior is from a Firebird and the back seat is functional. Phyllis stitched the headliner. The garage floor got too hard and too cold for these old bones, so I sold the 40 coupe and the 63 XKE.
My signature mode of transportation was a 1978 Cadillac El Dorado coupe with 51000 total miles on it. It was bought new by the colorful Lubbock lawyer, Campbell Elkins. The song they sang at his funeral was "I Did It My Way."
My favorite driver is the 91 Seville which just fits me to a T.

Music:
I enjoy music. My favorite singer of all times was Gentleman Jim Reeves. Charley Pride is my choice of the contemporary singers. The Chuck Wagon Gang was always my favorite gospel quartet - I grew up on their music. I play the harmonica and mountain dulcimer well enough to sit in with real musicians occasionally. Lately I have taken up the Q-Chord. It looks like something Spock from Vulcan would play, but it is a wonderful electronic autoharp. I have even been singing some old songs with it. If you can stand a 1 meg downolad of a .wma file you can hear me sing an old Hank Williams song called "A Tramp on the Street".
